Food Safety & Traceability

  • The entire team at King Fresh realizes that many families consider the fresh produce we grow as a staple to their healthy diets. The proven benefits of a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is well established by medical research and we will continue to be responsible for providing clean and healthy fresh produce to consumers worldwide. We also understand that brand loyalty and consumer confidence can quickly disappear with food safety concerns. King Fresh believes Food Safety and Traceability is of the utmost importance for our customers and we will ensure they are able to trust in the fresh produce we grow for their enjoyment and nourishment.

To attain our goals, our farms meet and exceed all state and federal water requirements and implement leaf and product samplings to insure our produce is safe to consume for our valued customers. We take great pride in the fact that our Table Grapes are non-GMO. This means our products contain zero genetically modified ingredients. This year, King Fresh is celebrating 12 years of the implementation of our FRESH TRACK program which traces each carton of fruit we pack with a simple state of the art coding system. Our field tested traceability program was developed initially as an in-house tracking system that we have found is a perfect fit to follow our fruit from “field to fork.”

The Food Safety Team at King Fresh have been hard at work with assistance from Kingsburg, CA, based Guardian Harvest, certifying all farm sites, labor crews and cold storage facilities to meet all HAACP and Global Good Ag Practices (GLOBAL GAP) Food Safety programs. This ever developing food safety program will remain a top priority at our company for many generations to come.

King Fresh Produce feels Food Safety and Traceability is of the utmost importance.  Together with outside consultants Harvest Guardian, we have converted River Island Cold Storage from a regular Primus Food Safety without Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points facility to a Global Food Safety with HACCP facility, with certification effective July 2013.  We are currently working to do the same at our Jody Fresh Cold Storage facility.  The target date for this improvement & certification is April 2014.  At the same time, King Fresh’s farming operation is moving towards Global Gap with Wilson Farms achieving full certification effective October 2013.  King Fresh is working to have all growers certified Global Gap by 2014.
